SolMesno (Solar Irrigation Systems)

In response to the devastating effects of climate change on Ethiopian agriculture, we are launching the SolMesno project. This initiative provides affordable, solar-powered irrigation kits to smallholder farmers.

By harnessing the sun, we help farmers break their dependence on expensive and polluting diesel pumps, stabilize their harvests, and build resilience against unpredictable rainfall.

Our Approach

SolMesno is not just about selling pumps; it is about creating a sustainable agricultural ecosystem. Our approach combines hardware, training, and data intelligence to maximize impact.

  • Tailored Irrigation Kits: We provide affordable, easy-to-install solar irrigation kits specifically designed for the needs and plot sizes of Ethiopian smallholder farmers.
  • Local Installation & Trust-Building: We deploy trained local technicians for installation and maintenance, ensuring the systems are culturally accepted, trusted, and supported long-term.
  • Demonstration & Training Model: We establish demonstration plots where farmers can see the tangible benefits of solar irrigation (increased yields, reduced costs) firsthand before they adopt the technology.
  • Integrated Financial Platforms: We remove the barrier of upfront cost by partnering with financial institutions to provide simple, localized financing mechanisms tailored for farmers.

The Challenge We Are Solving

Ethiopian agriculture, which employs 70% of the population, is at a critical juncture.

Farmers are grappling with:

  • Climate Shocks: Unpredictable rainfall, prolonged droughts, and flooding are destroying crops and livelihoods.
  • High Costs & Pollution: The widespread use of diesel pumps is not only expensive (consuming up to 40% of a farmer's income) but also highly polluting.
  • Lack of Data: Communities lack access to data-driven insights and affordable advisory services to improve their farming practices.

Our Innovative Solution

We are introducing a revolutionary approach that moves beyond hardware into smart agroecology intelligence:

Affordable Solar Kits

We provide the tools farmers need to irrigate their land reliably and sustainably.

AI + Geospatial Agroecology Engine

This is our key differentiator. We use artificial intelligence and geospatial data to provide

Market Opportunity

Massive Target Market: There are over 7 million smallholder farmers in Ethiopia alone who could benefit from this technology.

Regional Expansion: This model can be replicated across East Africa's $1.5 billion irrigation market.

National Priority: Agriculture contributes 35–40% of Ethiopia's GDP, making it a critical sector for investment. With massive solar potential in the region, the time for solar irrigation is now.
